A COURAGEOUS Ulverston fundraiser will take an icy dip on New Year's Day to raise money for a local charity.
Gary Smedley, 46, of Bay Tree Road will be taking the plunge into Canal Foot on Sunday.
Not content with jumping into the water in swimming trunks, he will take the plunge dressed in a scuba costume.
Mr Smedley is hoping to raise £1,000 in support of St. Mary's Hospice. He chose the hospice as he felt it has done so much good throughout the year for the people of South Furness.
He said: "My partner works there as a housekeeper, I think it's a very special place."
Donations can be made to Mr Smedley's appeal through his just giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gary-smedley
