A CHARITABLE Ulverston girl has had her long auburn locks chopped off for a good cause.

Seven-year-old Sophie Dempster decided to support the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment, after hearing her mum and auntie discussing the charity.

The Pennington CE Primary School pupil then grew her hair long enough so that she could donate plenty of hair.

The youngster did not enjoy the months of brushing very long hair, but she was determined to do her bit.

Sophie said: "Some children lose their hair because they are poorly and I wanted to help them."

Sophie's proud mum, Elizabeth Dempster, said: "This is the first time she has raised any money and she has enjoyed seeing the donations come through.

"Sophie's hair was cut at home by hairdresser Julie Cavin-Riley from Jules hairdressers in Barrow. She has done a fantastic transformation and Sophie is over the moon with it especially as on the morning of the hair cut she was quite worried. I knew Julie would be perfect for the job."

So far on her just giving page Sophie has raised £80 and £50 in other donations. Donations can be made at  https://www.justgiving.com/elizabeth-dempster
