THE old adage of look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves was proved right when an Ulverston supermarket made a charitable donation.
Over the past 12 months Booths have been saving money collected from the 5p carrier bag charge.
Last week it proudly donated the £1,000 raised to local charity St Mary's Hospice.
A spokesperson for Booths said: "Over the last 12 months we have been saving our 5p's from the carrier bags tax to give to our chosen charities. A huge thank you to all of our customers in helping us donate £1,000 to St Marys Hospice."
St Mary's fundraiser, Mel Dixon, added: "A big thank you to Booths and customers for supporting our patients and their families by choosing St Mary's to benefit from their fundraising efforts."
