BUSINESS is booming for an Ulverston company after it celebrated the opening of a purpose-built UK head office.

MP John Woodcock and other distinguished guests attended an opening ceremony at Bender UK in Ulverston's Low Mill business park on Friday.

The completion of the £3m headquarters signals a new chapter in the history of the company, which has come to play a vital role in the South Lakes' infrastructure.

The new site, made up of offices, workshops, and demonstration areas will be a showpiece for the growth of the company, and the development of its 'residual current monitoring' technology.

This allows the monitoring of electrical systems, identifying hazards before they pose any danger.

Gareth Brunton, MD at Bender UK in Ulverston. Gareth Brunton, managing director at Bender believes this will fuel further growth of the company.

He said: "As someone born and bred in Furness, I am immensely proud of the investment in the future of Bender UK right here in Ulverston, and the confidence shown by the Bender family in our excellent workforce.

“There are huge opportunities for the technology being developed by our research and development departments in Germany, which is tailored by our teams in the UK to meet the needs of our customers. The new head office will play a vital role in securing that future

business."

Mr Woodcock, who unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the 2000m² site said: "It is tremendously encouraging to see a global company

renewing its footprint in the UK, and to see here today representatives from local companies, business organisations and schools which help to make this area so special. We are living in uncertain times but this occasion is a reminder that we must remain outward looking, serving the world and attracting investment."

Bender UK’s growth has seen healthcare become its biggest single market with more than 500 UK and Irish hospitals relying on Bender technology.

The maternity unit at Furness General which is under construction is the latest to benefit from the company's technology, which will safeguard the power for operating theatres and the intensive care unit.

Bender's clients also include BAE, Network Rail and subsea oil and gas companies.
