AFTER seemingly missing out on snow that was predicted across large parts of the county, south Cumbria has finally started to get a covering.

Shortly after 8pm this evening, snow started to fall in Ulverston as the market town quickly became blanketed in the white stuff.

Snow has also fallen in Grange-over-Sands, Dalton and other parts of south Cumbria tonight.

Forecasters had predicted that up to 10cm of snow could fall on higher ground in parts of the Lake District today as a yellow weather warning was issued for most of the UK.

The snow is yet to reach Barrow which has instead been treated to rain and sleet this evening.

The yellow weather warning is set to come to an end at 23:55pm this evening.

However, an ice warning has been issued for tomorrow morning with motorists urged to take their time on the roads.

A spokesperson said: "Ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces tonight and last into Friday morning.

"In addition, some outbreaks of sleet and snow are likely to run quickly southwards on Friday morning, chiefly affecting parts of northern and eastern England, clearing the extreme southeast by late morning.

"This may give local accumulations of 1cm to 2cm and add to icy conditions in places."
