A POPULAR south Cumbria agricultural show is preparing to stage a great family day out.

The show returns to Longrigg Farm, Urswick, with a range of attractions and entertainment for visitors. The children will be entertained by a visit to the Kids’ Zone .

Families can enjoy a hands-on experience seeing owls from the Owl Sanctuary and an amazing range of creatures from Little Beasties, in Ulverston.

The successful Alice’s Dog Show is back, and owners and their dogs can enter these classes on the day from 10.30am, with judging starting at noon. The event is kindly organised by Simon and Cathy Broomfield of Verstone Kennels, Mascalles.

The cone driving will see horses and their vehicles racing around cones against the clock. Barrow Vintage Motorcycle Club will also be attending with a display of vintage motorcycles and tractors.

The Greenfinger Folk and Pete and Ged Mosswill will entertain the crowds with a comical Gardeners' Question Time, which features audience participation. There will also be music from the South Cumbria Retirement Band. Calf handling will also be showcased in the main ring.

There is free car parking at the show and a free return transport service from Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston.

There will be a free bus from Ramsden Square, Barrow, at 10.30am, calling at Coronation Gardens, The White House, The Strawberry, all in Barrow, and Tudor Square, Dalton. This service is returning from the showground at 4.30pm. There is also a free bus from The Kiosk, Ulverston, to the showground and Geoff's Taxis will be running a free shuttle bus from 11.30am from The Kiosk, Ulverston, to and from the showground. The show organisers have thanked Geoff Wood for his support of the show.

The Ulverston and North Lonsdale Show organisers are looking forward to seeing lots of visitors coming through the gates from 9am for a great family day out.

Show president Mark Towers, who has family connections to the show going back 75 years, said: "Agriculture has always been at the heart of the Furness peninsula, and I feel that we need to promote and integrate it with everybody that we can at events such as North Lonsdale Show.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who is involved with the show, whether they are part of the committee or helping us on show day. Without the tremendous amount of hard work put in by all who contribute, this show would never happen.

"We must also, of course, thank all of the hundreds of competitors. We, particularly, thank Peter, Carol and Paul Stable and family for allowing us to intrude into their farming operation and letting us have the use of their land for a week for the show."
