WITH dozens of events planned over the festival, it may seem a hard task to choose which ones to attend.

No matter what your walking skill, experience or age, we've made a list of some of the events we feel you can't miss out on.

Introduction to Basic Map Reading.

Saturday April 22, 10am-1pm, £2.

Learn the basis on how to read a map, and orient yourself with a compass. Compasses and maps provided, and outdoor clothing is essential. Bookings must be made in advance by calling 07730 870298.

Assemble at the start of the Cumbria Way at The Gill in Ulverston.

Waterfall Walk from Satterthwaite.

Saturday April 22, 10.30am-3pm, £3.

Take in 'The Bathers' sculpture at Grizedale, Force Falls, Rusland Church and Arthur Ransome's grave.

No steep ascents but some steep descents are to be expected. Start at Satterthwaite Bridge, near Grizedale, however there will be a car share leaving Ford Park, Ulverston at 10am, dependant on numbers.

Historic Ulverston Guided Walk

Sunday April 23, 2pm-4pm, free.

Coniston Copper Mines and Levers Water

Sunday April 23, 10.30am-3.30pm, £3.

An historical walk around the Coppermines Valley and Red Dell, via Levers Water and Boulder Valley. The walk will begin at the Coniston Sports & Social Club, Shepherds' Bridge road. Full hill going boots & clothing essential, dogs permitted provided they are well behaved. Car share from Ford Park at 9.45am.

Iron Age to Iron Mine

Wednesday April 26, 10.40am-3.30pm, £3

A coastal walk from Newbiggin to Plumpton with added history of the route. Walkers to meet in Victoria Road, Ulverston for the No 11 bus at 10.15am to start at Newbiggin, south of Sea Mill. Unfortunately no dogs are permitted. A packed lunch will be required. A pause at The Bay Horse at Ulverston's Canal Foot is planned before returning to the town via the Canal Tow Path.

Tom Gill to Tarn Hows

Saturday April 29, 10.30am-4.30pm,

A moderate walk taking in Tom Gill, Tarn Hows, Colwith Force and Hodge Close. Walkers to meet at the Tom Gill/Glen Mary National Trust car park, around two miles north of Coniston.

Parking costs £5.50 for non-National Trust members, but there is free parking on the road leading up. Car share from Ford Park at 9.30am. Great views of the tarns, waterfalls and quarry. Some steep slopes along the way. Full fell kit and lunch needed. Dogs welcome.

Alpaca Encounter

Sunday April 30, 2pm-4pm, £2

Family Fun at an alpaca farm. Walk to the site for a talk on wildlife and feeding of the animals.

Children under 16 free but must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs. Boots recommended. Numbers are limited therefore booking is essential by calling 01229 467916. Meet at start of Cumbria Way in The Gill, Ulverston.

Herb Walk

Monday May 1, 10am-12pm, £2

Bardsea to Birkrigg circuit during which walkers can learn about the medicinal herbs growing in our hedgerows. Assembly point at the Braddylls Arms, Bardsea. Led by Medical Herbalist. Dogs are welcome.
