A ROYAL Marine from Ulverston's dream will come true when she plays in front of thousands at a London music festival.

In March Musician Ruth Wardle, 27, will take centre stage at the Royal Albert Hall performing solos alongside the Massed Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines.

In anticipation of performing during the Mountbatten Festival of Music the young violinst said it will be the pinnacle of her career.

She said: "I saw a violinist playing a solo at the Mountbatten Festival of Music a few years ago and knew that I wanted to be up there myself one day. It’s a dream come true for me and will certainly be the pinnacle of my career so far. It’s why I joined the Royal Marines Band Service."

A former music student at Ulverston Victoria High School the player was inspired to join the marines after taking part in a visiting workshop by the Marines Band.

She said: "Members of the band used to come into our school to run workshops and perform joint concerts. Although I was interested in a career in the Band Service, I always wanted to study at University so once I graduated I looked again at joining up."

One of solos she has chosen to perform a recital of ‘Meditation’ from the opera ‘Thaïs’ on the violin. She has served with the Royal Marines band for four years, travelling all over the world to perform when not at her home base of Plymouth.

She added: "I regularly play solos with the Plymouth band and have played this piece before, but that’s at much smaller venues, so nothing as big as this. I’m nervous, but very excited. My piece is quite famous - it’s played a lot on Classic FM."

The two day concert will be held at London's Royal Albert Hall between March 9-10.
