MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays as temporary traffic lights are set to be installed on the A590 in Ulverston for a two-week period.

The lights will be in place close to Daltongate by the construction site for the new blue light hub at the side of the A590.

Consolidating the police, fire and ambulance services under one roof, the new facility will be the first of its kind in the South Lakes.

As well as the development of the hub, Daltongate will be redesigned to facilitate a junction into the site. Emergency crews are expected to move onto the site as early as spring 2018.

The temporary lights will operate between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm from Monday June 5, taking into account complaints from motorists about delays during peak commuting times.

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: "On behalf of Eric Wright Civil Engineering and Cumbria County Council, we thank you for your patience while we undertake works at the Daltongate junction with the A590.

"We continue to undertake works along the A590 which, to date, have involved lane closures along part of the dual carriageway. Motorists are advised to expect some delays and to allow extra time for journeys. We apologise in advance for any disruption caused."
