ROADWORKS which caused huge tailbacks in Ulverston were caused by a faulty manhole cover.
Roadworks and traffic lights were in place on the A590 just past the Booths roundabout from Tuesday to today.
The work to fix a manhole cover and road had been carried out by Carillion, on behalf of BT.
A BT spokeswoman said: “The work was carried out to replace a manhole cover that had been reported to us by Cumbria Highways. The cover had become loose and the surrounding area was starting to break up. The work has now all been completed and we apologise for any inconvenience to those affected by these works.”
