THRILLS and spills are guaranteed at a popular country show in south Cumbria this weekend.

Rusland Show is preparing to celebrate its 133rd year as a family-orientated sports and horticultural event with circus acts and sports races among the many attractions on offer.

The traditional affair welcomes people from home and away to take part in a host of activities from craft tents to egg throwing and catching.

This year is set to be another resounding success as event planners reveal that a fantastic range of entertainments that are in store.

Show secretary Antony Meanwell believes it’s an event that should not be missed.

He said: “It’s a show that’s put on by local people for local people. It’s a family show and we have sports events for both children and adults.

“It’s about getting people involved as well and getting them to grow their own vegetables and flowers and making their own breads, cakes and jams and children can come and exhibit their drawings and can make things.

“It’s a family event.”

The show will take place tomorrow on Whitestock Meadow and will begin at 12.30pm.

Mr Meanwell is hoping for another fantastic year and is eager to welcome in a host of new faces.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for people to come and see a traditional show and to just enjoy themselves and take part in the day’s activities.”
