AFTER a long summer students will finally receive their GCSE results this Thursday.

Sixteen-year-olds from across Furness, Millom and South Lakes will be heading back to the schools to discover their grades.

The young people will be moving onto college courses, apprentices ans other training schemes.

Jacob Egglestone, Ulverston Victoria High School's headboy, is just one of the many students who has been patiently waiting for his results.

The 16-year-old, of Ulverston, has taken 12 GCSEs.

The musician plays the trumpet in the acclaimed UVHS Wind Band and Swing Band. This July he joined UVHS Wind Bandon a a tour of the Rhine Valley, Germany, which he says was a good distraction from waiting for exam results.

The tour included performances in Kurpavillon, Bad Munster, Zu Gast im Brunnenhof, Trier and Koblenz.

The young people received an amazing response from local people and tourists from around the world.

Jacob, who has also been on UVHS music tours to Austria and Holland, said: It was a brilliant tour. The performances were great, and the audiences were even better. We got brilliant feedback. I really enjoyed spending time abroad with my friends. It was a distraction from waiting GCSE results.

"Music is a massive part of my life. I enjoy being in the bands, we have excellent opportunities for music at UVHS."

The headboy, who planning to meet up with friends at results day, said: "I do just want to know my results now.

"I'm going to study music, art and maths at UVHS sixth form."

Jacob, who is considering doing a music or architecture degree at university, said: "I've been proud to be headboy at UVHS. I've enjoyed giving speeches at achievement assemblies and at the prom."
