AFTER some truly stunning days in south and west Cumbria, today (13) has brought a more damp, dark outlook to the county.

This afternoon has brightened up and Thursday is due to bring the sunny spells back with ice developing over snow-covered areas later in the day, while Friday is also expected to be fine and sunny with an overnight frost.

This week's conditions have provided a field day for The Mail's talented photographers and others, who snapped up the chance to capture the county in all its glory.

For the main part, south and west Cumbria escaped the chaotic weather conditions which saw parts of Wales, London and the Midlands grind to a halt on Monday and Tuesday.

But there was still snow to be had on higher ground and these stunning landscapes show our fabulous scenery to full effect.

There was even the chance for some lucky youngsters to get out and about sledging, as adorable Bootle three-year-old Thomas Tyson demonstrated on Corney Fell.

With odds short on a white Christmas for 2017, here's hoping we get to see some more stunning scenes.
