A MAN has been sent to prison for 12 months after admitting stealing clothes worth £1,170 from an independent store in Ulverston.

Ioan Muntean, 32, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on October 25 where he pleaded guilty to five offences.

Muntean, of Belmont Street, Rotherham, admitted stealing the clothing from Working Class Heroes in Market Street, Ulverston on April 19 as well as four counts of fraud by dishonestly making false representations to make a gain.

Muntean obtained £40 from Co Op in Harrell Lane, Barrow; £50, from the Drawing Room in Duke Street, Barrow; £100 from Brewers Fayre in North Road, Barrow; and £110 from Tesco Extra in Hindpool Road, Barrow.

He was given a four month prison sentence for the clothing theft and a further eight months for the false representations.

Muntean must pay full compensation to all outlets as well as £140 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
