EVENT organisers have released details of roads set to be closed during this weekend's Ulverston Carnival.

A series of closures will be in place between noon and 4pm on Saturday when the popular event takes place.

Roads affected include The Gill, Stanley Street, Soutergate, Mill Street, King Street, Market Place, Market Street, Union Street, Brewery Street (from the car park entrance to Union Street), Hart Street to Ford Park, Swan Street, Fountain Street, Buxton Place Car Park, those areas of highway of Little Union Street, Well Street and Lower Brook Street (east of the entrance to Buxton Place Car Park), Queen Street, Cavendish Street, County Square, New Market Street, Brogden Street (between Market Street and Cross Street), and Cross Street (access maintained for post office vehicles).

Diversions will be in place via the A590, A595, A5092 and the B5281.

The theme of the carnival parade this year is The World of Entertainment, and organisers are anticipating a stream of people dressed up to the nines, making their way through the town alongside floats featuring members of the local community.

The traditional dancing competitions will take place on Ford Park at 10.30am, with the Hollywood-themed carnival parade starting at 1pm from Hart Street then heading through town and on to the park.

The Bay Stage comes alive at 4pm with performances from Misha B, Barrow vocalist Beth Horan, singer-songwriter Adrian Ventura, well-known local performer Denis Horan and 18-year-old pop-rock singer-songwriter Josh Taylor.

This year the carnival will be supporting five local charities, Ulverston Mind, Hart Street Mencap Centre, Ulverston Inshore Rescue, Furness Carers and Furness Animal Refuge.
