POLICE have issued a drug warning following the death of an Ulverston teenager in Manchester as tributes pour in on social media for 'one amazing girl.'

Lauren Atkinson, 19, from Ulverston, was discovered shortly before 6:30am on Saturday December 10 at The City Warehouse ApartHotel in Great Ancoats Street.

Paramedics had tried to resuscitate Miss Atkinson, who worked at Eleanor Kate's Nail and Beauty in Market Street, Ulverston, but were unable to revive her.

Miss Atkinson's father Nigel, who runs Ulverston Rugby League club, changed his Facebook profile to include a picture of himself and his daughter, with the tribute: "We were blessed to have a daughter who touched so many. And was loved by everyone. The world has lost one amazing girl."

Eleanor Edwards, boss of the beauty salon where Miss Atkinson worked, set up a Just Giving page to raise funds for the young beautician's funeral.

So far, more than £9,000 has been donated by more than 450 people just two days after she was found dead.

A tribute posted on the salon's Facebook page read: "It is with heart breaking sadness that I must inform you of the passing of our dearest friend and colleague Lauren.

"Could I kindly ask for your patience and understanding at this dreadful time."

Miss Atkinson had visited Manchester to attend a music event at the Warehouse Project in Shore Street.

Last Thursday night, she posted on Facebook a picture of the setlist with the message 'So excited roll on tomorrow.'

Cumbria Police believe that Miss Atkinson took a 'pink teddy bear' pill and are concerned that others may have also taken the drug.

Detective Inspector Helen Ellis from Cumbria Police said: "Unfortunately it is unlikely that this girl is the only one to have been offered one of these tablets, and I am urging people to simply not take them if they still have them in their possession.

"You can never be sure of what a drug contains and as this tragic case shows, it can have fatal consequences.

"Anyone who has taken such a drug is urged to seek medical assistance. "Police would also like to speak to anyone who has any information in relation to the existence of these types of tablets in Cumbria."

Two women aged 24 and 21 were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs while two men aged 24 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

The four of them - who are all from Cumbria - have since been bailed until February 3.

Senior officers for Greater Manchester Police have issued a plea to anyone who has taken the drug to seek urgent medical attention.

Superintendent Stephen Howard, of Greater Manchester Police's City of Manchester team, said: “This is a tragic situation, the death of a young person is always devastating, but in these circumstances, it is all the more heart breaking. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

“Sadly, we know it is very unlikely that the girl was the only person to have taken this drug last night.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have taken ecstasy, to get checked out. Even if you took it some hours ago, this pill will still be in your system and could be seriously harming your health.

“Anyone with any information about what happened or where this drug may have come from should contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
