VOLUNTEERS will be out in force in Ulverston to draw attention to an international campaign to eradicate polio.

Rotary International's Purple4Polio campaign seeks to raise awareness of the ongoing fight to erase the disease.

There are only three countries left in the world - Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan - which still harbour polio.

On Saturday members of the Ulverston Rotary will be planting 5,000 purple crocus bulbs along the grass bank by Sunderland Terrace. The colour purple has become the symbol for the fight against polio.

The volunteers will be planting from 11am onwards.
