THOUSANDS of pounds worth of planters  are set to add colour to a town.

Ulverston in Bloom welcomed the arrival of £9,000-worth of planters to the town centre.

Gavin Knott, of Ulverston BID, has said that Ulverston in Bloom adds to the vibrancy of the town and that the BID has been keen supporters of the project.

Mr Knott said: "It is good for the community and we are very pleased to support this.

"It lifts people and makes a nice backdrop to the town. We are very happy we can support this event."

Ulverston in Bloom is a voluntary group that looks after all the planting within the town, which includes all the town's tubs, planters, Jubilee Gardens and planted beds.

One of the volunteers, Pat Bentley, said: "I think it is good the fact that they are altering them (the planters) and I think they will go a long way to making it (Ulverston) look a lot better.

"It's always nice to come into a town and see how pretty it is. If it looks nice, then more people will want to stop by and take a look."
