OVERNIGHT road closures on the A590 at Rusland Pool this week are forcing motorists to use a diversion via the Lakes.

Carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing alongside the Rusland Pool layby, between Pool Foot and Roam Bridge, started overnight on Sunday with temporary traffic lights in place. On the four remaining nights - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the A590 will be totally closed between 8pm and 6am.

Drivers heading eastbound for the M6 will need to follow a diversion from Greenodd roundabout – using the A5902, A5084 to Torver. A593 through Coniston village and Ambleside and then the A591 and A592 to Windermere and Newby Bridge respectively.

Drivers heading westbound towards Ulverston and Barrow will need to use the same diversion in reverse from Newby Bridge.

The closure will also affect a number of Stagecoach bus services. The 2015 and 2300 X6 from Kendal and the 2120 from Ulverston will be diverted at Roam Wood via Booth and Lanes End. Minor delays are expected as a result of the diversion.
