TOMORROW students from across South Cumbria finally get their hands on their GCSE results.

Sixteen-year-olds will be returning to their schools to collect their grades and hopefully celebrate with friends, teachers and their families.

One of the students patiently waiting for GCSE results is Callum Slater.

The Ulverston teenager will be heading back to John Ruskin School, in Coniston, to see how he got on in 10 subjects. His options were art, expressive arts, history and French.

Callum sat 18 exams over the summer. He said he prepared and revised as much as he could and he is confident he gave it his all.

The student said he has been a "little frighteningly relaxed" about results day coming up - apart from the 'have I forgotten to write my name on the front of all my exams?' thought.

But this summer he has not had time to be thinking about results as he has kept himself busy getting involved in the National Citizen Service programme through Inspira.

Callum even wrote blogs about his NCS experiences which were published by nwemail.co.uk

He said: "I’ve come to the realisation of what will be, will be. I’ll certainly still be shaking at opening my envelope on Thursday morning. Many of my friends have seen much larger nerves though, it pains me to know that some of my closest friends have been reduced to tears over the stress, fear and pressure cramped upon us in waiting for our results.

"And that is exactly why NCS has been so fantastic. I can honestly say that throughout my three weeks GCSE exams and results day completely left my mind - it provides a huge weight lifted off your shoulders and is life changing fun all the way through.

But in relation to the exams NCS has also gotten me thinking about my future, it’s opened doors to opportunities that I can get involved in and made me think about possible career paths. Administering the social media pages for our social action project #DabbingAgainstDiscrimination has allowed me to see my own potential working online with social media in the future."

Callum, who will collect his results with his sister, said: "I’ll be able to see all my friends and teachers at school so it's a good opportunity to discuss things, support each other and for those I haven’t seen through summer it’ll be great to just say hi.

"I love John Ruskin School to bits, they’ve done everything to prepare me, I hope I’ve left my own little legacy and I’m really excited for what the future holds for me. I have my ideas for the future but who really knows where it’ll take me."

He hopes to study law, French, art and English language at Barrow Sixth Form College to focus on his passion for foreign languages, particularly French.

His biggest aspiration is to study for a degree in French with another foreign language and spend a year working in France or another French speaking country.

"I’ve always had a flair for languages so I’m really excited to enhance my knowledge."

After results day Callum is off to Leeds Festival. He found it really important to have something to look forward to beyond results day to keep himself positive.
