MASKED raiders staged a daring raid on a Greenodd business by cutting a hole in a fire door then stealing goods worth £16,000.

The incident happened at Mole Country Stores, in Crakeside Business Park, at around 6.20pm on December 6.

CCTV footage from the scene shows two masked intruders were involved in the break-in.

They gained access to a storage area through the fire door.

A large amount of animal medication for the treatment and vaccination of cattle and sheep was stolen, along with approximately £1,000 from the safe.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace of South Cumbria CID said: “Whilst there is no suggestion the medication has been stolen to replicate controlled drugs, I would advise members of the public to exercise due diligence around the illegal purchase and consumption of any none prescribed medication.”

It is suspected a vehicle was involved in the incident.

A spokeswoman for the company said last night that immediate action had been taken.

She added: "These are very unfortunate circumstances. Instances like this are not common in Ulverston and this one comes at a particularly unfortunate time of the year.

"We have revisited and revamped our security in light of this and to ensure it does not happen again."

Police are appealing for any members of the public who may have information to contact 101 and ask or leave a message for DC Jon Reed.
