At around 10.30am today a truck travelling down North Lonsdale Road, in Ulverston, struck the arch of the railway bridge which spans the road.

An eyewitness reported fist-sized pieces of rock littering the road in the aftermath of the crash.

A spokesman from Network rail confirmed an incident on North Lonsdale Road was reported to them at 11.30am

They said: "A structural examination will take place at 1pm."

They also stated the services running along the line were unaffected at this time, subject to the results of the examination.
