THE benefits of a generous donation are set to be enjoyed by all ages and generations within one South Cumbria community.

The Lindal Ladies Charity Group has become the latest recipient of the £1,000 monthly grant from the Lake District Farmers Armstrong Family Charitable Fund Evening Mail giveaway.

The money will pay for a revamp of the kitchen at the village's Buccleuch Hall, including a new cooker, fridge and flooring.

The facility is used by a huge range of people, including the village mother and toddler group, pre-school, Rainbows and Brownies. The parish council holds its meetings at the hall, which is also home to summer galas, Christmas fairs, the Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party and numerous private functions.

Christine Stringer, a member of Lindal Ladies Charity Group, said: “This will prove advantageous to the groups and organisations who utilise this wonderful amenity, benefiting everyone from infants through to senior citizens. It‘s needed doing for quite a while.

“The hall has it’s summer holidays starting in mid-July, when preschool breaks up for the summer, so we‘ve got mid-July to the middle of September to get it sorted. It’s just fallen absolutely ideally really, because we can get on with it right away without inconveniencing any of the hall users.

“We‘re thrilled to bits. There was lots of hugging and excitement when we found out.”

The Lake District Farmers Armstrong Family Charitable Fund was set up by late Barrow businessman and philanthropist, Ray Armstrong alongside Lake District Farmers managing director, Dan Austin.

Set up following Mr Armstrong’s diagnosis with liver and pancreatic cancer in August 2012, the scheme has continued to inspire generosity and support since his death in April 2013.

Mr Armstrong, who was boss of PKA and Lake District Farmers, wanted to ensure £1,000 was donated to community groups every month. He arranged for applicants to make bids for the funding through the Evening Mail, with the winners of the money being featured in this newspaper on the first Monday of every month.

The money is raised at an annual celebrity chef event, hosted and sponsored by Clarence House Country Hotel and Restaurant in Dalton.
