TWO teenagers will look to conquer a fear of the tallest order with a fundraising challenge next month.

Ulverston 17-year-old, Georgia Stretton, and pal Abigail Walker, also 17, of Walney, will attempt to climb 213ft up The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach to raise money for two charities.

Both teens are afraid of heights, but will look to overcome their fears as they take part in the challenge to complete their National Citizen Service programme.

Miss Stretton said: “We're doing the NCS and, as part of it, we have to complete 30 hours of charity work. We decided to climb The Big One to make it more of an adventure for us, while also raising money.

“It's quite a big challenge for us because we have got a huge fear of heights.

“On the first week of the NCS we had to take part in an outdoor activity that involved heights, and ours was to climb a tall tree. I just couldn't do it, so now I really want to overcome that fear.”

The pair hope to raise £1,000 for Mind and The Bluebell Foundation.

Miss Stretton said: “We're raising money for Mind because there are a lot of people who go through mental illnesses and not enough is done about it, so we want to raise money and awareness.

“The Bluebell Foundation is our other charity and it's for grieving families suffering from a loss. It's important because people need their help and it is vital they can reach out.

“These two charities are looking after people who don't speak out about their problems enough.

“We hold a strong passion for the two charities through our own personal experiences and we feel a lot more could be done to help people who are suffering from mental health problems and family losses.”

The pair will take part in the challenge on September 29. Visit www.gofundme.com/climbing-the-big-one-for-charity to make a donation.
