A DEVELOPER has their eye on scooping planning permission to pave the way for Ulverston's very own ice cream parlour.

If their plan is successful it will signal the revival of a former shop a stone's throw away from the town centre.

The chairman of the Ulverston Traders Association, Ralph Spours, believes the addition of a such a unique business would be a terrific addition to the town.

He said: "It's a brilliant idea it brings back memories of when I was a kid and there was a proper ice cream parlour. It is just terrific.

"I think it should be a very very attractive business. It adds to the variety of Ulverston and displays what our little town has to offer."

The developer, Barrow woman Lucinda Camaish, remains tight lipped at this early stage but hinted at telling the public more in the near future.

She said: "I'm a little bit superstitious I don't want to tempt fate. I'd like to keep things under wraps for now."

Ms Camaish's propoals would see renovation work take place at the Light House shop. Plans submitted to South Lakeland District Council show the creation of a new retail space as well as kitchen facilities on the second floor.

Ulverston town councillor for the town ward, David Webster, was glad to see there was development on the horizon for the area.

He said: "It is good to make use of the shop for starters. It is something different, something that has not been around for a number of years.

"It is a niche market and I wish the very best of luck to the developer."

At the last meeting of the Ulverston Town Council the council voted unanimously to approve the plans.

The council do not have final say on planning proposals but they are a consultative body for SLDC, who will make the final decision.
