A CHARITY has thanked the "heroes" who supported a packed David Bowie tribute night at the weekend.

St Mary's Hospice staged a celebration of the icon's music at The Hope and Anchor, in Ulverston, on Sunday night.

Fans, some sporting the superstar's Ziggy Stardust flash, packed into the pub to enjoy hits of the late legend as performed by Furness musicians.

Pete Thompson compered the busy evening and he joined forces with Dave Mills and John Gallagher for performances of " Heroes" , Rebel Rebel and Ziggy Stardust .

Also among the entertainers were Mojo with renditions of China Girl and Space Oddity . Steve Tyson also staged a Bowie disco for the event.

Barman Kenny Thomas was one of the Bowie fancy dress winners on the night, proudly wearing the famous Bowie flash.

The hospice thanked the Hope and Anchor team and all those who supported the night. The charity said the £340 raised on the evening will help to provide support, care and hope for local people and those who love them.

Bob Qazi, corporate fundraiser at St Mary's Hospice, said: “This was a great effort by all the heroes that turned up to perform. Pete Thompson, a real starman, compered the show and we are really grateful for all his hard work. There were some really interesting songs performed and even more interesting dancing by the crowd proving there is life on mars. Thanks to everyone for a really hunky dory evening."
