AFTER the resounding success of a Cumbrian food festival it's organisers are more excited than ever to take it on the road.

In May, Taste Cumbria will come to Ulverston, bringing with it a cornucopia of regional delicacies ready to set local tastebuds alight.

Last weekend the festival came to Kirkby Lonsdale and was very well received.

Mandy Norwood of CN Events, who organised the event in Kirkby, said: "What a fabulous first event in Kirkby Lonsdale. The feedback from traders and businesses has been great and there are already calls for us to set a date for next year."

Traders at the festival have remarked on how busy they were during the weekend. Stu Taylor from Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery said last Saturday night was as busy as New Year's Eve, and Mark Duckworth from Dales Butchers in the town had to cancel his demonstration on Saturday because he couldn't get away from their stall - their hog roast was another sell-out.

Ms Norwood added: "The other thing I loved were the deals being done between traders. Booths are talking to Two White Hats about potentially stocking their spice mixes. Kin Vodka is now on the shelves of several Kirkby Lonsdale bars. That's what is brilliant about Taste Cumbria - you always find another delicious product you didn't know existed."

Ulverstonians eager to enjoy the festival do not have much longer left to wait. It will come to the South Lakes town on Saturday May 27 and 28.

Last year, the event went down a storm, with more than 15,000 visitors attending over the weekend.

This is the fourth year of the festival and this year’s event, which is again supported by Ulverston Town Council, promises to be just as appetising, with around 60 traders in the producers’ market.

More attractions will take place across the town, including chefs' demonstrations outside the Laurel and Hardy Museum, and there will be activities put on for families held at Ford Park.

Festival organiser Marie Whitehead, director of CN Events, said: “We’re really looking forward to taking Taste Cumbria back to Ulverston again this year. They don’t call this the festival town for nothing; it’s such a great location for us and all our visitors."

After Ulverston Taste Cumbria will travel to other parts of the county, including Cockermouth and Whitehaven.
