CRISIS talks are today (28) set to resume over the fate of hundreds of jobs after a major Ulverston employer pulled the plug on an investment scheme.

After the summer recess of parliament, Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock, is bringing together dozens of local and county officials to discuss the possible withdrawal of GSK from the town.

In July, an emergency summit was called by Mr Woodcock, bringing together politicians, town officials and union members in response to the sudden news.

They resolved to act as one to fight any future job losses, and make sure the town would not suffer as a result of GSK's actions.

Until that point, the town believed a £350m investment plan would go ahead, bringing with it the promise of future jobs and prosperity.

Initially the summit planned to meet this week, on Friday September 22. However, this had to be postponed due to a number of schedule conflicts.

The meeting will take place at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston from 2pm until 4pm.
