A LOCAL hospice which provides care for people with life-limiting conditions has welcomed an essential cash donation from contractors.

St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston gives specialised supportive and palliative care for people across south Cumbria and relies on donations to carry out its work.

Morgan Sindall, a contractor working for BAE Systems on its site redevelopment programme Foundations for the Future, visited the hospice to hand over their cheque.

Helen Carlson, head of fundraising for St Mary's, was happy to take the £750 from Morgan Sindall project manager Chris Higham.

Mrs Carlson said: "St Mary's Hospice was born from the belief that no-one should ever have to face a life-limiting condition on their own.

"Our promise is that we will tailor our support to an individual's needs and ensure we enhance their quality of life.

"However, we cannot do this alone. Without the support of companies like Morgan Sindall we would fail, but together we can and will continue to make a difference for our community."

The hospice is also busy gearing up for this year's Walk to Remember, one of its popular annual events.

Hundreds of walkers will come together to show their support for St Mary's work on Friday July 7.

The Walk to Remember is a 10-mile sponsored walk which starts at the hospice at 8pm and finishes at Furness Academy, in Barrow.
