THE entire workforce of an Ulverston firm are now trained to deliver life-saving treatment thanks to a free training course led by firefighters.

Ulverston fire's blue watch crew delivered the Heartstart training to staff at Bender in Ulverston earlier this month.

Crew manager Shane Parkinson, who also works for Windermere's on-call crew, said the workers at Bender will receive a recognised qualification.

"With early intervention you can maintain someone's life until paramedics arrive," Mr Parkinson said, explaining the significance of the training.

"The scheme was launched in response to figures which showed that 90 per cent of heart attack victims could have been saved with early intervention."

The Heartstart training scheme is an interactive programme including practical demonstrations led by local fire crews.

It is available to anyone, including members of the public, community groups and companies.
