BALLOON swords and the chance to see a dragon attracted mini St Georges to Ulverston for a fun activities celebrating England's patron saint.

The crowds turned out in Market Place for the Feast of St George events on Saturday.

A Punch and Judy show got the entertainment underway, followed by music performed by Ulverston Town Band. 

Children were eagerly awaiting St George and the dragon interactive show. 

Little ones such as Jacob Thompson, aged three-and-a-half, of Ulverston wore a flag of St George cape and brought a plastic sword.

His mum, Sue Thompson, said: "He is very excited about St George, the likes the festivals and the music."

Cousins Maisie Tyson, two, and Lola Earp, two-and-a-half also enjoyed a mini sword fight and Punch and Judy.

Maisie's mum, Natalie Tyson, said: "They loved Punch and Judy and they are excited to see the dragon and St George. We come out to every festival, they are really good events."          

The crowds go a glimpse of St George riding around the streets on his charger, they were then wowed by a talking animatronic dragon called Duncan. 

There was lots of encouragement from the crowd in the pageant for George to overcome the dragon.   

Street samba band Blast Furness also performed. 

Those interested in the history of St George attended a lunchtime lecture at The Coronation Hall, while others sampled the Taste of Cumbria's dragon burgers (spicy chicken burgers) and Ulverston Brewing Company's Dragon's Blood Ale at The Sun Inn 

Today was also the start of Ulverston Flag Fortnight and the town centre was brighten up with businesses flying colourful flags above their shops. 

To make it a trio of festivals, Ulverston Walking Festival also go underway. The walking series runs until Monday May 2.
