A NIGHT of fundraising and fashion raised thousands of pounds for two charities which saved the life of a young woman from Ulverston.

A sell-out crowd enjoyed the town's Fashion, Food & Fizz show last night at the Coronation Hall, which was in aid of the North West Air Ambulance and Blackpool Cardiac unit.

Models wearing clothes from various boutiques around the area took to the stage, while an auction sold donated items such as a sports car for the weekend.

One of the highlights of the evening was when Sandy Nevinson took to the stage to give a speech.

The 26-year-old was seriously injured in July 2014 after being hit by a car as she walked in Ulverston. Her cousin Jessica Quayle sadly died.

She told the audience: "Without these two charities I would not be here today.

"They save lives. All I want to give back is to raise as much money as possible."

She received a standing ovation from the audience afterwards.

Victoria Cash, owner of Pretty Things in King Street, was one of the organisers of the event. She said tickets sold out within a couple of weeks.

Shops involved in the fashion show included Pretty Things, Pure, Phoebe Fashion, Boudoir Pink, Rushforths and Two by Two.

The Old Farmhouse pub baked a huge cake in the shape of an air ambulance, and food and flowers for the event were provided for free by various Ulverston outlets.

Ralph Spours, Ulverston estate agent, said the atmosphere at the event was always fantastic.

He said: "It's absolutely amazing. All of the food on the tables is given to us by various establishments in Ulverston.

"All of the girls want to take part in the show."
