A TEENAGER who drunkenly smashed up a van with an exhaust pipe has been ordered to pay compensation to the owner for the "mindless damage" caused.
Alannah Andrews, 18, who lives in a hostel in Kendal after being made homeless at the age of 17, shouted and swore at Ryan Birkett who was driving his vehicle in Ulverston on July 5.
She then grabbed a length of the exhaust from the side of the van and struck the car causing £200 worth of damage.
Andrews was given a conditional discharge of 12 months on the agreement that she continued to get help for her alcohol addiction.
Presiding magistrate Chris Harris warned Andrews that should she find herself here again "a future bench will not be as sympathetic."
