A father has been ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work after punching a bouncer on a night out.

Spencer John Hoyland, 25, of Sandhall in Ulverston, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court on Thursday, and pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

Lee Dacre, prosecuting, said: "The incident took place a 23.50 on Saturday June 25 at The Basement Bar in Ulverston.

"A police officer saw two males struggling and one of them was a door supervisor.

"He then saw the defendant throw two punches towards the door supervisor, who made a statement to the police saying the defendant was ejected from The Sun.

"At 23.50 he came back, trying to get back in. He became aggressive and the door supervisor pushed him away.

"He became more aggressive and came up to door supervisor who pushed him away again.

"He then threw a punch to his right eye with a left, clenched fist."

The door supervisor suffered some reddening and swelling but did not need any medical attention or time off work.

Michael Graham, defending, said: "It is clear that drink was a contributor to this loss of control.

"He hasn't been out since the incident and he has had an ultimatum from his partner.

"They parted for a few days which brought him up quick and sharp.

"The couple also have a young daughter together."

Deputy district judge James Hatton, ordered Mr Hoyland to complete a 12-month community order and to pay compensation of £50, a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85.

DDJ Hatton said: "It's an unpleasant incident in which you have got yourself too drunk to understand what the doorman was saying to you, which was to go home.

"I will also impose on you a financial penalty for which you are responsible and have only yourself to blame."
