CUMBRIA Police have said the cyclist injured in a fail-to-stop collision in Ulverston remains in a critical condition today and that police do not believe the suspect to be in Cumbria.

Police said the injured cyclist remians in hospital and continues to be supported by his family and specially trained police officer following the fail-to-stop collision on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers are continuing their efforts to trace the driver involved in the fail-to-stop collision and believe the suspect is not in Cumbria.

Superintendent Rob O’Connor said: “At this time there are over 25 officers working on this investigation.

“I am aware from comments on social media that there are frustrations about not releasing a picture or CCTV of the alleged offender. I have decided that to do so at this time could compromise our ongoing investigation, as well negatively impact future court proceedings.

“I can reassure the public of South Cumbria that our efforts to trace and arrest the alleged offender are concentrated outside of Cumbria, and that I do not believe the alleged offender remains in Cumbria.

“We continue to be in liaison with other police forces to assist us in achieving an arrest and would ask that if the alleged offender is reading this, he presents himself at a police station."
