A LUXURY glass manufacturer has proved to be a cut above the rest after hitting the small screen when a leading television series travelled to Mexico.

Cumbria Crystal shone in the limelight of hit television series, MasterChef, as the final four contestants of the latest series made a trip to Central America to show off their culinary skills.

The aspiring chefs visited Mexico City where they had to complete a number of tasks before winding up at the British Embassy where they rustled up a sumptuous dinner featuring some of Cumbria's finest tableware.

Chris Blade, managing director of Cumbria Crystal in Ulverston, said: "British Embassies around the world use Cumbria Crystal's Helvellyn range.

"We're British and it's about our heritage. Cumbria Crystal is a world leader in lead crystal and by using our products the embassies are representing the British industry and showing off the very best of British craftsmanship."

Cumbria Crystal is no stranger to the cameras and has seen some of its finest products on the small and big screen after being featured in shows such as Downton Abbey and Poldark and even James Bond blockbuster, Casino Royale.

Mr Blade said: "British manufacturing is really respected right across the world. It has that "je ne sais quoi" about it. It definitely has a sense of value."
