THE community are being invited to wang a welly and have some fun at a sports day this Sunday.

The Joshua West Foundation is encouraging people to go along to Ulverston Sports Club for the community fundraising day. The day is being held in memory of Ulverston's Josh West, who died in April 2016 following an asthma attack days before his 12th birthday.

Events for all ages take place at the sports club in Priory Road, from noon to 4pm.

Individual activities include wang the welly, an obstacle course, dizzy penalties, cross bar challenge and fastest serve.

Visitors are invited to just turn up on the day to join in the fun and games for a donation of £1 per activity.

At the same time as the individual activities take place, 16 pre-registered teams will see themselves put through a series of matches and games from rugby and football to cricket and dodgeball finishing in a grand old tug of war.

Josh’s mum, Nicola Lancaster, said: “Joshua loved life and loved having fun and a laugh with his family and friends. This event invites everyone to take a leaf out of his book and come along to join in the fun in memory of Joshua. We hope to see lots of people there on the day – bring your friends, bring your family – mums, dads, sisters, brothers, grandparents - everyone is welcome. As it's Father’s Day we hope to see lots of dads joining in the fun too."

Ulverston Leisure Centre is supporting the event.

Activities communities co-ordinator Hannah Paling said: “Joshua was a regular at the centre. He was well known and liked by all the staff here. We are pleased that Ulverston Leisure Centre is able to host some of the activities for his sports day and to help to raise some funds for the foundation, as well as help everyone have lots of fun."

Refreshments and a barbecue will be available. For more information call 07855 249773 or email joshuassportsday@gmail.com You can also find the Joshua West Foundation on Facebook and online at www.joshwest.webs.com

Teen indie band Pesky will be providing entertainment, all of the band members were Josh's school friends, and Mark Cumberland will be performing an Elvis tribute. Tickets cost £2.50 per person, including pie and peas, and can be bought on the door.
