A REFUGEE support group is to host a comedy night as it pushes to raise £10,000 for charity.

Two comics and a canine companion are coming to Ulverston's Laurel and Hardy Museum in aid of Furness Refugee Support.

In response to the humanitarian disaster in Syria, the FRS have so far sent more than £8,500 worth of aid to refugee camps.

They are hoping with this latest comedy night they will be able to hit five figures, pushing over the £10,000 mark.

Comedians Juliet Meyers and Caroline Mabey who have both been featured on the BBC have been booked to entertain the crowd.

A spokesman for Furness Refugee Support said: “Once again we’ve managed to book two top female comedians who are performing their shows free, to raise money for the refugees.

“We’ve already sent £8,500 to the Syria Relief, plus two articulated lorries and about six vans packed with donations.

"The last comedy night raised £2,000, so we’re hoping to easily top the £10,000 mark with this one."

Juliet Meyers will bring her routing, and her dog, to the stage. A mix of stand up and story telling will cover unconditional love to anxiety, canine behaviour and being a wolf.

The comic, whose writing credits include BBC Two's 'The Sarah Millican Television Programme' has been described by The Independent as "exceptionally funny".

She will be joined by Caroline Mabey, the support comic for the night.

Decribed by Time Out as "a mischievous, kooky talent," and who has written for BBC's 'The Now Show', audiences are sure to enjoy the comic's brand of introspective humour.

The event will take place on the evening of Friday May 19, doors opening at 7.30pm.

A spokesman from FRS said: "We’re suggesting people pay £15 on the door,or what they can afford. Tickets can also be bought through the Laurel and Hardy Museum website.

"As well as the comics, there’ll be a band, a raffle with some great prizes, and our famous curry, a steal at only £3.50.

"If you want to help out on the night, you can contact us on Facebook by searching Furness Refugee Support Volunteers."
