A TWO-CAR crash has claimed the life of a keen photographer and fell walker.

Police have confirmed that Barrie Pilkington, 73, of Ulverston, has died following a collision on the A5087 coast road on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2.10pm the red Kia Rio Mr Pilkington was driving collided with a silver Vauxhall Zafira between Bardsea and Baycliff.

The road was closed for several hours following the incident.

The family of Mr Pilkington have released a statement, expressing their sorrow at his death.

It said: "Barrie Pilkington sadly passed away yesterday and will be severely missed by his family and friends. He loved photography and fell walking and had even completed all the Wainwrights. He’s now free to explore any fell he wants."

Two women who were inside the Vauxhall were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but have since been discharged.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them with any information that could help their investigation.
