A BOOZY teen has been warned she must turn her life around after pleading guilty to taking bottles of vodka and whisky from a supermarket, at a cost of nearly £250.

Alannah Louise Andrews, 18, of no fixed abode, appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday where she admitted to stealing a total of 11 bottles of Smirnoff and Jack Daniels from Booths, Ulverston, just days after begging to be tagged in order to combat her addiction.

The court heard how Andrews had visited the store on five separate occasions across June and July using a rucksack to conceal the items which were for her own consumption.

Andrews took bottles of Smirnoff red label vodka and Jack Daniels whisky worth a total of £248.79.

Mr Sean Harkin, defending said: "Alcohol is a problem for her and she wants to address the reason for her behaviour. She has welcomed help from probation services and the homeless office."

Mr Harkin told the court how Andrews had been served with an eviction notice from a hostel she was staying in in Castle Road, Kendal, after her boyfriend breached his licence conditions by visiting her. He has since been recalled to prison for eight weeks.

The troubled teenager is now registered as homeless and Mr Harkin added that she was "taking steps to address her problems".

Magistrate Jackie Sharpe said: "I cannot stress how seriously we have considered these offences.

"If you do not comply or commit other offences you are seriously facing a custodial sentence. This is very serious and you need to stop this now and you are very lucky to get the sentence that you have."

Andrews was given a 12 month community order and told she must complete six months of alcohol treatment and 60 hours' unpaid work.

Compensation of £248.79 was ordered to be paid to Booths as well as an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
