THE beauty of one of the world's most famous ballets is to grace a popular arts venue.

A group of 130 dancers will take to the stage this weekend when they present the classic Swan Lake.

The dedicated dancers from Maria Fischer's Windermere and Furness School of Dance have put in hundreds of hours of practice ahead of the event.

Mrs Fischer said: "The girls have been so committed and enthusiastic.

"All ballets are beautiful but Swan Lake is emotional, wonderful and inspiring.

"The girls have loved rehearsing, they want to carry on. My students said to me this week they are sad because it is nearly over.

"They have a sheer love of dance when performing."

The role of Odette, Queen of the Swans will be performed by Ellie Harvey, 15 on Friday and Alice Worral, 17 on Saturday.

Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette is being performed by Malachi Briant, 16 on Friday and Henry Chatfield, 15 on Saturday.

Odette and her maidens are victims of a terrible spell by the evil sorcerer, Von Rothbart played by Kate Mitchell, 15.

The spell can only be broken if one who has never loved before, swears to love Odette forever.

Performances are on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 June at 7pm on both nights at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.
