RESIDENTS in Kirkby will be given the chance to see plans for a major housing development which could soon be built in the community.

Tomorrow a meeting will be held at Burlington C of E Primary School in the village where residents can view and consult on the developer's plans.

Local firm Holker Group is behind the scheme to construct 50 houses on land just north of the school, beside the A595.

The development is believed to be the largest in the village since the construction of Burlington Close in the 1960s.

Chairman of the Kirkby and Ireleth Parish Council, Michael McPerson, said: "Fifty-five houses were built then, this one is for 50. It's large and will have an impact on on the parish. Not least the increase in the number of people living in within it, the effect it will have on local services and the community as a whole."

He added the council would deliberate the plan and speak to local residents before it reached any concrete conclusions.

Sarah Powell, headteacher at Burlington Primary was positive about the plan.

She said: "It's an exciting opportunity to develop some affordable housing in the village."

The meeting will be held at Burlington School between 3pm and 8pm tomorrow.

The Mail contacted Holker Group for comment but did not receive a response.
