Cumbria Calling will welcome the UK’s first professional orchestra devoted to the art of video game music.

Manchester Video Game Orchestra will perform a night of music at The Coronation Hall in Ulverston on May 23.

With epic games of battle and survival playing on the big screen behind them, 24 musicians will bring the soundtracks to life as you’ve never heard them before.

Music from favourites such as The Elder Scrolls III, Medal of Honour, Fortnite and RuneScape will be reimagined through classical instruments.

After an adventure into the musical world of gaming, the evening will also feature world premieres of brand new soundtracks from local students.

Pupils from Chetwynde, Dowdales, Ulverston Victoria High and Walney Schools have been working hard on creating their own scores of music and will have the chance to show off their skills on stage.

Video Game Fantasia will be brought to life by various composers before the evening turns to celebrate the amazing creative talent of Cumbria’s young people.

Tom Hillary, founder andconductor of Manchester Video Game Orchestra, said: “We are delighted to unveil our new outreach partnership with the esteemed Orchestras Live and Cumbria Music Hub for the current 2023-2024 season.

"Collaborating with these wonderful organisations is sure to bring forth a multitude of exciting projects that will captivate audiences from all walks of life. At the heart of this three-part project lies a special focus on the South Lake District. Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to bring this new immersive experience that celebrates the harmony between music, creativity, and the schools throughout this remarkable region."

The evening will start at 6.30pm. Tickets will cost £20 for adults and £5 for anyone under the age of 18.
