THE hottest weekend in the South Cumbrian calendar is to be celebrated with the launch of a fiery creation.

Holker Chilli Fest returns to Holker Hall this weekend for the fifth time, with organisers launching the 'World's Hottest Pizza'.

Cooked up by Ged Fowler of the Chilli Pepper Company and Ian Robinson of Cartmel Cheeses, the pizza is made with the Guinness world record holder Naga Viper.

Jillian Rouse, head of visitor services at Holker Hall, said: "We are really pleased Ged and Ian have chosen the Chilli Fest to launch the pizza.

"It will be great to see visitors try it for the first time.

"I know they are keen to get feedback, so make sure you pop over to the Cartmel Cheeses stand to give it a try."

The festival will also welcome back the ever-popular chilli-eating competition over the weeknd, with brave enthusiasts taking on the world's hottest collection of chillies.

Hosted by chilli aficionado Darth Naga, competitors will battle the Scoviles from 4pm both days.

Visitors to the hall will meet specialist chilli growers, with the opportunity to take plants home, sample food and drink, and enjoy the family fun.

There will also be live music and cookery demonstrations on show.

The festival runs from Saturday September 8 until Sunday September 9 from 10.30am until 5pm.

Entrance on the day is £6.50 for adults and free for children under 16 when accompanied by an adult.

Holker Hall and Gardens will also be open during the festival.
