Who’s the loudest crier now?

ULVERSTON’S town crier is hoping for a quiet night’s sleep after bringing her baby daughter home last week.

Mrs Blood, 38, gave birth to the new arrival via Caesarean section at Furness General Hospital on August 9.The pair are now relaxing at home with dad Stuart, 37. Mrs Blood, who became the town crier in 2004, said: “We are just over the moon with her. In many ways she is like her dad. But she’s definitely got my mouth.”

While Mrs Blood says she would like to return to town crying, she is currently concentrating on her new role as a first-time mum.

She added: “I would like to go back to it but after a few sleepless nights it would be hard work to get up and get the outfit and bell out.

“The town council have been very kind and supportive. There won’t be many town criers that take maternity leave.”

Anika’s early delivery came after a two-week stay in hospital for Mrs Blood, who was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia in July.

The couple have now extended their thanks to the staff and midwives at Furness General.

Mrs Blood said: “The care they provided was phenomenal and we are eternally grateful.”
