ONLY Barrow council could spend taxpayer’s money on Champagne to celebrate the opening of a new car park – a car park, designed of course, to extract as much money as possible out of local taxpayers coming into Barrow to shop or keep an appointment.
Pay and display ought to be made illegal. Why on earth can we not have the updated facility which is in use in most towns – and certainly in those implementing new car parks – of paying as you leave the car park for the amount of time used?
Last week I reckoned that I paid for one hour and 20 minutes of time I did not use, simply for fear of running out of time and being fined.
It is not always so easy to calculate the amount of time an appointment etc might take. The car parking tickets are not transferable, which must also be illegal.
That car parking space, having been paid for, should be available for use during the given paid-for time, no matter who uses it, providing they have the ticket showing payment for that time for the space available.
Why should we have to drive away with time still running on the ticket, when if it were the other way around we would be slapped with a parking fine. The whole concept is dishonest.
This new car park is just another way for Barrow council to extract money out of the taxpayer and not in my view a cause for celebration.
