Ulverston brewer wins two golds at beer festival

An Ulverston brewery has won two gold medals and a bronze at a beer brewers festival in Germany

Ulverston beer win

Stringers picked up the string of awards at the Global Association of Craft Beer Brewers Festival.

It fought off competition from as many as 28 countries with their fruit beer Damson scoring gold in the fruit or vegetable category. They paid homage to their hometown with beverage Furness Abbey which topped the Belgian-Style Dubbel or Triple class, and their Dry Stout claimed bronze.

Michelle Meredith of The Global Association of Craft Beer Brewers said: “This award is unlike any other beer award as it is awarded 'by brewers, for brewers'. No critics, no sommeliers, no self-appointed 'experts'- it’s all about the people making the goods to tell us what they think, the brewers, the real experts of the trade.”

The Furness Abbey also picked up the judge’s choice award for Outstanding Achievement.

Jon Kyme of Stringers said: “It would have been great to win just one award but to scoop four accolades for three of our beers is truly fantastic and is recognition of Stringers continued commitment to creating beer of the highest standard.

“It's also great to see a beer brewed with Westmorland Damsons wowing the judges in an international beer competition. It's proof that genuinely local produce can have a place on a global stage.

“And to get a special award for a beer in a continental style is a real coup for a British brewer”
