Tunic success gives Jasmin a top feeling

A WEST Cumbrian designer has helped to create a top for a high street fashion retailer.
Jasmin Moore, of Gosforth, has been working as a fashion intern for London design company, Coppernob.
She was recently given the task of redesigning a pattern which has been used on a new dress – 14,000 of which are now on sale in New Look stores across the UK.
Ms Moore travelled back to Gosforth last weekend to celebrate her 21st birthday and was surprised to find that one of her friends wore the dress – named the Tilly tunic – to her birthday party.
She said: “It’s the best feeling in the world to see something you have created in the shops and to see people wearing them. I just can’t believe it.”
Ms Moore, who is studying textile design at Leeds University, says the design was her first big project during her 12-month internship with Coppernob. She began the internship in July and started this project for New Look a month later.
She said: “We have a team of designers who work together. We buy in a lot of prints from around London and we manipulate them and the colours to make them suitable for selling in high street shops. I also design original artwork, but on this occasion this wasn’t one of them. The print I worked with was a very complex handpainted design, it took a bit of time to change and edit it.”
She said while she has been working in London, she has been involved in various other design projects. Her placement ends this summer and she will resume her university studies in September.
