A HEARTBROKEN mother has paid an emotional tribute to her late son, describing him as a “very loving boy who touched lots of hearts”.
Ashley Keenan, 18, of Barrow, died suddenly on Monday.
He was found at Silverdale Street hostel.
Police were called to the Barrow property at around 12.20pm after receiving reports of a sudden death. Officers have said there are no suspicious circumstances.
On behalf of his family, his mum, Amanda Morris, 39, of Barrow, said: “Ashley was a very loving boy who touched lots of hearts. He obviously had lots of friends. He will be very sadly missed. I would like to thank people for their tributes and for their support.”
Friends of the teenager have been leaving tribute messages on the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.
CharlieMorris wrote: “RIP Ash Keenan, many will miss you mate x”, while Aynsley posted “RIP Ashley Keenan x.” Harby Darris wrote: “R.I.P Ashley Keenan, seen you a few days ago, just doesn’t seem real... thoughts go out to friends and family, you’ll be missed!”
Mr Keenan had previously been a student at Furness College and Thorncliffe School (now Furness Academy), in Barrow.
Jane Ridyard, director of Young People’s Learning, at the college said: “While a student at Furness College Ashley was well liked and he enjoyed his brickwork course. All of us at Furness College are very sad to hear this news and our thoughts are with his friends and family.”
Douglas Blackledge, principal of Furness Academy, said: “We were alerted late on Monday evening to the reporting on Facebook of Ashley’s death. This is terribly sad news and a tragedy that someone so young has died. Ashley was a Year 11 student during the first year of the academy having been a former pupil of Thorncliffe School.
“The sincere condolences of everyone at the academy and especially colleagues from Thorncliffe go out to Ashley’s family and friends at this terribly sad time.”
The office for the South and East Cumbria Coroner said an inquest was set to open today.
