A MUM-of-three from Barrow has died suddenly in South America.
Veronica Jean de Bueso, born Hemsworth, died aged 68, on September 1 in Honduras following a sudden illness.
Mrs de Bueso grew up in Barrow, and went to Sacred Heart Church in the town, and in her adult life was involved with the charity Save the Children which took her around the world and her work saw her travel to Thailand, Singapore and India before she travelled to Honduras.
In line with custom in Honduras her funeral was held a few days later but her family is now planning a Catholic mass in Barrow which will act as a memorial service.
She first visited the South American country in 1975 and returned in the 1980s when she married and had three sons Carlos, Alexander and Andrew.
Mrs de Bueso is the sister of Barrow body building legend Bill Hemsworth, along with her brothers Bernie, Peter, Ted and their sister Anne.
During her time in the country Mr Hemsworth said his sister had met Princess Anne through her work with the charity.
Speaking to the Evening Mail, Bernie paid tribute to his sister – who he said would be missed.
He said: “She was my elder sister – she was four years older than me and when she was going
“She looked out for me, mam made sure of that.
“She went out to Honduras in about 1975 the first time after they had a hurricane that hit the coast.
“I remember in the 1990s there was another and I was trying to get hold of her, she didn’t have a mobile phone and there was that much devastation – it was worrying.
“Eventually I got through to Save the Children and they were able to tell me she was OK.”
Announcements for the memorial service are due to follow.
